Bryson Eiler Ms. Lehmann English 2-1B 17 December 2019 Student’s Choice Essay We’d already planted the tomatoes, Carrots, Zucchini, and pumpkins when I noticed a lone seed at the bottom of the pumpkin packet. It was completely different from the rest of the seeds-bigger and rounder, with red speckles. “Must be a mistake,” Dad said. He held it in his palm and looked at it closely. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like it before.” I poked a hole in the ground with my finger and dropped the mystery seed in. I patted some soil over it gently and drizzled water over the top with the watering can. Suddenly, a little green shoot popped up where the seed had been planted, and a tiny leaf unfolded. We watched in utter disbelief as the little seedling grew taller before our very eyes, more leaves grew, a bright flower bud appeared, and then… The flower bud at the top of the plant bloomed and it was a majestic bright red flower, or so it seemed that way at first. It was then that I noticed there were multiple buds growing rapidly around the stem and blooming almost simultaneously. These ones were different although, when they bloomed a small amount of powder came out whenever they bloomed. My father didn’t trust it as soon as he saw it he said “We need to leave there is something about this plant that doesn’t feel right.” So that’s what we did we packed everything into our suitcases and moved to an entire different town. We were driving for what felt like hours until the car slowed to a stop and my dad exclaimed “Here it is finally!” we stepped out of the truck to see a rather underwhelming hotel. It looked more like a wooden shack than a hotel but my parents decided to bring out bags and everything inside anyways. When we entered the room we noticed the beds were about what you would expect, nothing but mattresses on bed frames. One good thing about it was that the hotel had a TV, it only ran the news channel but it was better than nothing. So we turned it on and the first thing we see is that the town we left has been blanketed in a mysterious red cloud of extremely poisonous spores. The authorities cannot investigate due to the fact that the spores pierce even HAZMAT suits and those wearing it are killed almost instantaneously. That wasn’t much different from just regular people though who were just bones if they were in the town during the original explosion. Although from what they saw above there is a massive flower blooming near the outskirts in a farm releasing these spores. The only solution the government had come to was to somehow incinerate the flower by dropping a match or something on it overhead in a helicopter or something. So, that’s exactly what they tried to do they went overhead and dropped a lighter on the massive flower making it combust almost instantly. Although, one thing they did not see was that when they tried burning the flower, and then the spores exploded, rather violently. By the time they had finished their expedition the whole town was nothing more than a giant purple crater. It was made purple from the exploded spores. We decided to move back the next day and see what was left, if there was anything left, that they could salvage. We were fined for the damage done to the town, the cost it would take to fill the crater, and my parents were arrested for using weapons of war on American territory. That was the incident of 2020 caused by nothing but a tiny seed. Student’s Choice Reflection
